Go clubbing with DFW International friends and celebrate one of the world's most colorful traditions - while fundraising for the victims of the Haiti disaster! Explore the rhythms and dances of Brazil, the Caribbean and the world.......expressions of a shared heartbeat that unites us all.
CARNAVAL for Haiti is a global celebration planned by and for the international community, to benefit the victims of the Haiti disaster. Our seven DJs are from Kenya, Morocco, USA, Russia, India, Brazil, and Mexico! We will open with a Parade of Nations and close with a Global Drum Circle. Live drumming in the batucada rhythm will accompany the Passarela di Carnaval (Rio de Janeiro style procession) in which each of our 40 participating cultures will be featured, including Brazil, Haiti , USA (New Orleans style Mardi Gras). The evening's program lineup can be viewed at www.dfwinternational.org/Carnaval/ and will include a Carnival Costume contest, Arabic dance competition, samba lessons, tarot card readers, henna / mehndi and body painting, and exciting participatory experiences such as the Nigerian Abiba hip shimmy dance. Prizes will be giv
en for the best carnaval costumes, and mini dance lessons for cumbia, merengue, salsa, and tango will be offered.
CARNAVAL for Haiti is sponsored by Al Dia, Univision, and Univision radio.
