DFW International Community Alliance announces the DFW International Leadership Institute, with three sets of leadership seminars beginning on Nov. 9. This program is designed to enhance skills and cultivate leadership talents through training for more efficient and effective practices in the traditional American style of conducting business.

The nine seminars in the series are led by presidents of leading community organizations such as the India Association of North Texas and the Partnership Walk, by international business and communications professionals, by staff of Richland College and the Dallas Public Library, and by mayors and foreign-born elected officials from across the metroplex. They are offered on alternating Mondays in the DFW International conference room at 12830 Hillcrest (@ LBJ).

The program includes workshops on nonprofit management (how to create bylaws, keep minutes, set agendas, etc.), event planning, fundraising, communications, multicultural competencies, gaining access to civic leaders, and more. Each series of 3 classes costs $50, or $140 for the complete program and one can register

Series I -  Introductory leadership training
Nov 9, 2009  Seminar 1: Getting Started (mission statement, registering a nonprofit, 501 (c) 3 status, officers, recruiting board members, bylaws, , etc)
           Facilitators:  Bill Matthews of the UN Assn, GB Brar of the Sikh community
Nov 23, 2009  Seminar 2: Organizational Meetings and Operations (agenda, minutes and treasurers report, budget, Roberts Rules of Order, legal issues)
           Facilitators:   Mayor Ron Jones of Garland,  second facilitator pending
Dec 7, 2009  Seminar 3: Communications (press releases, contacting the media, webpage, logo, letterhead, yahoo groups, emails, newsletters)
          Facilitators: Anabelle Garay of the AP and other facilitators provided by Richland College

Series II - Intermediate leadership training
Jan 11, 2010  Seminar 1:  Events (venue, advertising, permits, artists, rentals, goals, budgets, team building, timeline, planning, multi cultural issues, etc)
            Facilitators Marsha Singer of the Irish Festival, India Association’s Anand Bazaar, Partnership Walk
Jan 25, 2010  Seminar 2:  Tools (excel, power point, webpage, Quick Books)
            Facilitators provided by Richland College
Feb 8, 2010  Seminar 3:  Multicultural competencies, ethical, personal issues (practical lessons in cultural differences, how to achieve in the US American context and leverage your cultural background)

Series III - Advanced leadership training
Feb 22, 2010  Seminar 1:  Fundraising (grants, partnerships, corporate sponsorship)

Mar 8, 2010  Seminar 2:  Accessing city council, mayors’ offices

Mar 22, 2010 Seminar 3: Using Census Statistics and Running for civic office
            Facilitators:  US Census, Richardson Councilman Amir Omar, Rowlett Councilman Patrick Jackson
